Galvanized chain

What is a galvanized chain?

A galvanized chain is a type of chain that has been treated through a galvanizing process to improve the chain's resistance to corrosion and rust. This process involves applying a protective layer of zinc to the surface of the chain, creating a barrier between the chain and the elements that can cause corrosion. Galvanized chains are used in various applications where strength and durability are essential, including marine, industrial, agricultural and construction.

The galvanizing process can be carried out in several ways, including hot-dip galvanizing and electro galvanizing. Hot-dip galvanizing involves immersing the chain in molten zinc, creating a thick and durable layer. Electro galvanizing, on the other hand, uses an electric current to apply a thinner layer of zinc. The choice of galvanizing method depends on the specific application and the requirements for protecting the chain.

Where are galvanized chains used?

One of the primary advantages of galvanized chains is their ability to withstand harsh environmental conditions. In marine applications, where chains are often exposed to salt water, galvanizing is essential to prevent rust and extend the life of the chain. Salt water is known to be particularly corrosive, and without a protective zinc coating, chains would quickly become damaged and lose their strength. Galvanized chains are, therefore, a popular choice for anchor and mooring chains and fishing equipment.

Galvanized chains also benefit industrial applications. In factories and production facilities, where chains may get exposed to chemicals, moisture, and other corrosive substances, galvanizing ensures the chain's integrity. Galvanized chains are often used in conveyor belts, lifting equipment, and other mechanical systems where reliability and longevity are essential.

Galvanized chains are also indispensable in agriculture and construction. In agriculture, they secure fences, gates, and other structures that must withstand the elements. The construction industry uses galvanized chains for lifting and safety equipment, where the chains must withstand loads while protecting them from corrosion.

At CERTEX Danmark A/S you will find both long-link and short-link galvanized chain. Please note that the chains might not be approved for lifting.
